What you need to know about Steven Hale

To give you the fullest information about Steven Hale, we are pleased to answer essential questions about how to deal with us with regard to payment and other matters - plus we’ve provided you with a list of principal horological terms which we’re sure you’ll find useful!

How can I pay for items or repairs?

We accept PayPal, VISA, MasterCard, Switch, Solo, Delta, cheques or cash.

  • Payment by cheque – please be advised that cheques will need to be cleared before purchases are made available for collection. Please allow five working days for your cheque to clear through the banking system.
  • Payment by cash - cash is only accepted in-house; please do not send cash payments through the post.
  • Payment by card – for credit card payments, a surcharge of 1.5% will be added to the total amount. There is no additional cost for debit card payments

Is it possible to have my watch posted to me?

If you wish to have items posted, this will incur a charge covering postage, packing and insurance. We are happy to quote for this service. Please be aware that restrictions apply on the shipping of certain brands to some countries, so please contact us prior to purchase. 

Please note that items purchased will not be dispatched until payment is received.

Are all of the watches for sale restored?

No, not all of them. We service all our watches to give a guarantee of working order, occasionally repairing or replacing worn-out parts if necessary (we have an excellent stock of genuine spares, so as to maintain the authenticity of a watch both inside and out). Our in-house Swiss-trained case restorer re-finishes all the cases, using factory techniques and finishes to attain the same state in which the watch would originally have left the makers. On occasions, if a dial or other external watch part is damaged, we may undertake some sensitive cosmetic restoration.

What guarantee comes with the watch?

We personally guarantee all watches repaired or sold by us for a period of one year. Watches for sale have been thoroughly checked inside and out to verify their authenticity. All the images on our website are taken in-house and are of the watch being offered; further images are available at request.

I collected the watch on 11 August, as you know.  It is a pleasure to have it back in full working order and looking as good as new.  How it came to be so damaged, I do not know.  The crystal and dial are fresh and clean in striking contrast to their previous condition.  The watch was my grandfather’s silver wedding anniversary present to my grandmother.  It was with her when she and my grandfather were deported from Guernsey to Germany in 1943 and returned with her to Guernsey in 1945.  The watch will pass to my granddaughter in a few years’ time.Please pass my thanks and appreciation for his work to the watchmaker.
